Photograph article dated April 18, 1962 partially reads, "Old policemen don't retire and fade away in any sense of the word, especially old police officers like William (Big Bill) Barkley. Bill Bill [sic] keeps as busy as a bird dog in his machine shop and related gun business. Several years ago when Barkley's time was up with the Los Angeles Police Department he decided to go into the pistol-light business. Although the idea is not a new one, Barkley refined an old development of fixing a flash light to a pistol. What he did basically was to fabricate a bracket for a standard two cell flash light. This bracket is used to cradle a hand gun. A night patrol policeman need only to lay his service revolver in the light cradle and he was both his weapon and flash light together for any emergency."
