Description
Photograph of a drawing of San Francisco's first fort, Fort Castillo de San Joaquin, reproduced from Bartlett's Narrative for the "Beginnings of San Francisco", 1852. The fort is a small collection of buildings on a high bluff overlooking the bay. Two riders can be seen headed to the fort at right, and in the foreground at right are two people lounging on a hill. There are several sailing vessels in the bay, and large mountains surround the water on all sides.
