Description
Photograph of an exterior view of The Hamburger's Store building (later became the May Company) on the corner of Eighth Street and Broadway, Los Angeles, ca.1912. The five-story building features cornices circling around the second and third floors, fancy ornamental moldings around the rest of the floors, and an extended flat roof. The first floor consists of mostly shops with their cloth awnings extended. The façade sports a large portico-like arched entrance. A few early-model cars are parked along the street in front of the building. People can be seen standing on the corners of the block preparing to cross the street. Legible signs include: "S. Broadway", "W. Eighth St.", "window shade linoleum", "café, 1881, 1906", and "18709" on an early model car.
