Photograph caption dated February 1, 1961 reads "The Rt. Rev. Francis Eric Bloy, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles, presents 1961 Award of Merit to Mrs. Alanson H. Root Jr., left, 9320 Debra Ave., Sepulveda, a parishioner of St. Mark's Church, Van Nuys. With them is Sister Paula, S. H. 77, a chaplain at Olive View Hospital, Sylmar, also one of three women in diocese to receive citations for outstanding church service. Presentation was made during current 66th annual diocesan convention in Los Angeles."
