Description
Black and white lantern slide showing an African soldier (known as Askari) in the black fez of the Nyasaland battalions of the King's African Rifles. The man stands barefoot with a long, weather-beaten military coat buttoned (although three buttons are missing). He smiles and stands next to a woman, possibly his wife, who wears traditional dress and carries a large straw basket on her head. This slide comes from a set on the activities of the King’s African Rifles battalions in Nyasaland. It was originally held by the Church of Scotland, and generated by J.W MacKay.
