Photograph was edited for publication purposes Katsuma Mukaeda was an important leader in the Japanese American community in Southern California, dedicating his career to the preservation of Japanese culture and traditions as well as being a representative for Japanese immigrant and Japanese American issues. Among his many achievements, Mukaeda was the founder and former chairman of the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center in Little Tokyo. He served as the president of the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Los Angeles and the Japanese Association of Los Angeles and helped organize the Japanese Welfare Association and the Japanese Chamber of Commerce of Southern California, acting as president in 1950, 1951, and 1965. In addition, he was awarded Japan's Order of the Sacred Treasure in 1960, 1970, and 1976.
