Sandra Brauner's family immigrated around 1901 from Russia (both sides) in search of a better life. Her husband was born in New York, while she was born in Los Angeles at St. Vincent's Hospital. She lived in Israel from 1955-1976. When she finished school, she went to Israel as a tourist in 1954 and met her husband in Negev, Israel. They lived there for 20 years and had children there, of whom hold dual citizenships.
