Description
A drawing of the new L.A. City Hall placed in front of the new Hoover Dam, to symbolize the importance of water and power from the dam to the future growth of L.A. In 1931, in the midst of the Depression, Southern Californians voted $220 million in bonds for the construction of the Colorado Aqueduct, to benefit from the new dam. The construction financing of the dam was based on the pledge of Southern California to take the electric power produced, in advance of actual need.
