Raw footage from a show titled "Los Angeles History Project" that aired on KCET in Los Angeles, from 1988 through 1990. Each of the three seasons consisted of four episodes. Robert Williams, 75 years old at the time of the interview, shares his extensive knowledge of the history of Southern California. During a tour he gave to Lonnie Bunch of the old black neighborhoods, he pointed out churches, cemeteries, nightclubs and the Hotel Summerville. He relates stories of racial discrimination and states "Los Angeles was portrayed as a Garden of Eden...but with snakes." His recollections are filled with descriptive observations and good humor. Interviewed by Dr. Lance Williams, a professor of ethnic studies with a deep knowledge of the black community in Los Angeles. (Bio notes taken directly from transcription provided by KCET).
