Photograph caption dated April 8, 1961 reads, "Robert Dusek, left; Dick Valenzuela and Agnes Pirone discuss plans at Van Nuys Airport before leaving on rainmaking attempt Friday. Dusek, owner of Seminole Hot Springs in Agoura, and Valenzuela, a pilot-friend, deposited some 500 pounds of carbon dioxide in low hanging clouds above the desert spa. Dusek wanted to make it rain hard enough to quench fire fears and fill a watershed with enough water to drain down into his 11-acre lake. It sprinkled briefly at 11:30 a.m., but the clouds soon moved southward. 'We tried,' he said."
