Description
Manuscript map showing the barracks, stores, support buildings (e.g. hospital, kitchens, bake house, privies) for the Newcastle Barracks in Saint Andrews, Jamaica. An inset map shows the elevation profile of the barracks. The Newcastle military center was constructed in the 1840s under Major General Sir William Maynard Gomm in an effort to reduce the number of yellow fever deaths amongst British troops.
