Photograph was edited for publication purposes San Fernando Valley State College is now California State University, Northridge. Photograph caption dated February 14, 1961 reads "James E. Son is a man whose occupation is often very active, as depicted by Valley times TODAY photographer Alan Hyde. Guesses as to what he does prompted such opinions as 'slapping away gnats' and 'surreptitiously tossing spitballs at pigeons' while someone suggested he 'wanted to ask a question, then quickly changed his mind.' To find out what the gentleman is actually doing, see the photo on page 18." Son is the director of the Long Beach Junior Concert Band, one of nearly 35 bands that participated in the Festival of Youth Bands at Valley State College in Northridge.; See images #00129629 through #00129633 for all photos in this series.
