Photo, black and white: Sadao and Shizue Fujihara Hamaoka wedding portrait, Camp Amache, Colorado, 1944. Background: Soon after the outbreak of World War II, all Americans of Japanese ancestery on the West Coast were removed from their homes and businesses and relocated to internment/concentration camps for the duration of the war. In 1942 most American of Japanese ancestery from Sonoma County were sent to Camp Amache in Colorado. Sadao Hamaoka and Shizue Fujihara met at Camp Amache and were married there in 1944. They returned to Sebastopol after the war. Sadao worked for the Hotle-Burdo Ranch for 50 years.
