Description
Mary Neyer's father was George Weinshank, who was born in Los Angeles in 1866. He taught agriculture at the Whittier State School (later Fred C. Nelles School for Boys), and in 1907 planted the Paradox Hybrid Walnut tree, around which there was an annual Walnut Festival in Whittier for many years. It was designated as a California State Landmark. She discusses St. Mary's Catholic Church in Whittier, the effects of the Depression on her family, and daily life in Whittier during the early part of the 20th century.
