Photograph caption dated July 12, 1960 reads "Rafer Johnson, United States' main hope to win the decathlon in the Olympic Games in Rome this summer, is with the 146th Air Police Squadron of the National Guard and is stationed at Van Nuys. Johnson, Airman 3rd class, is seen checking credentials at gate of Airman 2nd Class David Shairman. Johnson will be at Van Nuys for two weeks." The squadron is stationed at the Van Nuys Airport.
