Description
A view of the catafalque of President Abraham Lincoln, on display in a park (Monument Square) in Cleveland, Ohio. The catafalque is housed beneath a rectangular gazebo in the center of the park, with crowds of people, many carrying umbrellas, lined up on its far side.
This particular catafalque was built for outdoor viewing; other cities had shown the coffin in large civic buildings. 150,000 people came to pay their respects in Cleveland. The catafalque containing Lincoln's remains traveled from DC to Springfield, Illinois with the following itinerary: DC, Baltimore, Harrisburg, PA; Philadelphia (April 22 & 23); NYC; Albany (April 25); Buffalo; Cleveland; Columbus; Indianapolis. Tipped into Oldroyd, The assassination of Abraham Lincoln.
