"Picture taken June 27-1927. In the race he landed on the Island of Molokai - just 50 miles from Honolu" -- handwritten on verso. Captions in error, Smith and Bronte flew just prior to the Dole Race.
2012-1024.
Ernest L. Smith and Emory Bronte flew a Travel Air 5000 high-winged monoplane, City of Oakland, from Bay Farm Island, San Francisco to Molokai in July of 1927, just prior to the Dole Race. Became the first civilians to make the flight.
