Description
Interior of Wheeler Martin grocery store, circa 1900. It was called the Pioneer Grocery. This photograph appears to have been printed in reverse from the negative, as the wording on the signs are mirror images. Three men stand behind the counter. Note the swastika symbol on the packages on the table from the Pacific Coast Biscuit company. In the early 1900s, the company used this symbol in its marketing. At the time, in Pacific states, this symbol was meant to convey a sense of goodness.
