Description
White HMong women and children eat outdoors at a shared, communal table during the 1964 HMong New Year celebration in Sam Thong, Laos (Xiangkhouang province). The women pictured wear traditional Xiangkhouang garments, including black pants, black jackets with dark blue sleeve cuffs, pink and green belts, and purple turban (phuam txoom suab) held together with striped ribbons (siv ceeb). One woman (pictured center left) wears a white towel piled in a stylistic way over her turban. Several people are visible holding umbrellas.
