Description
Image shows group of students from the University of California at Berkeley visiting on the garden terrace of the Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. residence, located on Rosita Place on lot 4, block 1600, tract 6885 (later resubdivided as lot 2, block 2 tract 10674) in Malaga Cove. As stated in the Palos Verdes Bulletin article of July 1929, "Under the direction of Mr. H.W. Shepherd and Miss Jones, of the Department of Landscape Design, eleven students from the University of California at Berkeley spent the day on June 7th studying parks and gardens at Palos Verdes Estates." The students are standing along the terrace wall, with Mr. Olmsted visible seventh from the right, his back to the camera. Several houses are visible in background among the hills, with an overhang of eucalyptus branches in the foreground. The house was demolished in 1971 due to bluff erosion.
