Description
Weeping willows accent this circa 1929 photograph in Southside Park, located at Seventh and V Streets. What was once known as the Seventh Street Slough was dredged in the summer of 1911 to form a lake and two islands. The dredged material was then used to form sloping banks on the east side of the lake. Surrounding the lake were tennis courts, drill grounds, parade grounds, playgrounds and mile-long driveway. When complete, the total cost of the park was 60,000 dollars.
