Photograph caption dated December 9, 1939 reads, "Holding his two silver trophies, Cooperman is shown in center with Elizabeth Neff, of South Gate High, who won second place; and Bob Oliver, of Los Angeles High School, who placed third. Nine young orators, the cream of high school speakers, competed, talking extemporaneously on a vital subject of the day, "America and World Peace."
