In 1953, the Esquire Theatre was converted to become Canter's Deli, which had moved from its original location in Boyle Heights.
James Cagney signs the guest book at the "Mayerling" premiere at the Esquire Theatre in the Fairfax neighborhood. Accompanying him are, left to right, his sister-in-law Boots Mallory, brother William and wife Frances. Photograph dated January 18, 1938.
