Photograph caption dated March 19, 1964 reads, "Have you ever caught your husband standing alone on the back steps, seemingly in a world all of his own? Very likely, as men's dreams go, he is picturing himself on the bridge of a boat, a mild breeze against his cheek and the quiet of the night and the stars surrounding him. The popular San Fernando Valley Power Squadron makes these dreams a reality. This March, the Power Squadron held its fifth annual cruise at San Diego's Shelter Island. The San Fernando Squadron is one of the numerous chapters of the Power Squadron, which is a nation-wide organization of approximately 60,000 members. For 50 years, the goal of the squadron has been to produce experienced navigators and to promote safe boating techniques." Photograph caption reads, "Yes, it's okay - These two tars, members of the San Fernando Valley Power Squadron go over navigation chart on log race. They are, from left, Arden Lane, Woodland Hills, commander of the San Fernando Valley Power Squadron, and Skipper Howard Henderson of Woodland Hills."; See image #00145491 for additional photo in this series.
