Description
Photograph of replica pirate ship used for motion picture firing shots on the ocean, ca.1926. At center, a large vessel surrounded by white smoke is visible. Along the side of the ship, only four cannon hatches can be seen. On the deck, a few men can be barely seen near the bases of the masts. Thick clouds of smoke completely obscure the left-half of the boat. Three masts rise above the smoke, and three square sails can be seen. Above the sails, three small platforms are visible with multiple ropes connecting the masts to the deck below. In the background to the right, a few ships are visible . In the extreme background, a large mountain can be seen. The description on the back of the photograph reads: "The ship of hate! Tripolitan frigate Castle, chief adversary of the frigate Constitution in James Cruze's "Old Ironsides", soul-stirring patriotic story of the early American Navy, now being produced by Paramount. Featured players in the cast of the picture are Esther Ralston, Wallace Beery, George Bancroft, Charles Farrell, and Johnnie Walker".
