Description
"Camp of Govt. official." Exterior view of pitched tents around which gather members of a government force. The men in uniform are askari employed by the government. On the centre left is Mr McClellan, the government district collector, and on the right is Mr John Paterson, the mission agriculturalist who had managed the mission, with Mrs Watson, after her husband’s death in 1900. Dr DCR Scott and Dr Uffman were sent out, by the Church of Scotland in 1901, to take on the running of the mission. This image is from a collection of photographs which possibly belonged to Dr Karl Uffman, son of Dr Henry Uffman of the Leprosy Asylum in Purulia, West Bengal. He studied medicine at the University of Edinburgh and joined the Kikuyu mission from 1901 to 1905.
