Description
In the wake of the October 17, 1989, Loma Prieta Earthquake, Caltrans commissioned an oral history project to document the personal and professional experiences of Caltrans employees who worked to restore the State's damaged transportation system. This recording is the Loma Prieta Oral History of John Holson, who was an Associate Environmental Planner with Caltrans at District 4 in San Francisco at the time. In this interview, Holson describes his experience being at Candlestick Park for the World Series with co-workers and family members. He then recounts the route he took to get to Berkeley, heading south to San Jose, then going north toward Berkeley. After the earthquake, Holson was working on earthquake damage reports for the Federal Highway Administration. He also compiled a list of people that Caltrans had rented equipment from and the people whom they had contacted to rent the equipment. This recording is worth preserving because it's a first-person account of being at the World Series, experiencing the Loma Prieta Earthquake, and what work was done to fix the transportation system.
