Description
William Ross Aiken, at the blackboard at his office at Kaiser Aircraft & Electronics, San Antonio Road, Los Altos/Mountain View area. William Ross Aiken invented the Thin Cathode-Ray Tube in the early 1950s. H became Director of Research of Kaiser Electronics and Aerospace Company and headed work in aircraft instrumentation. There he developed the Kaiser-Aiken Thin Cathode-Ray Tube. After leaving Kaiser in the early 1960s, he headed Electronix Ten, Inc. in Los Altos, where he developed audio constrols and a new, large screen electrostatic display system. He later became Executive Vice President of Display Technology Corporation, Cupertino, which produced his DISTEC SYSTEM electrostatic display. Aiken, who graduated from U.C. Berkeley (electrical engineering '47), authored many scientific articles and nearly 100 US patents and additional foreign patents. He served for 10 years on the Los Altos Hills City Council, and a term as the city's Mayor.
