William Waste was born in 1868, in Chico, to John Jackson and Mary Catherine (McIntosh) Waste. Attended University of California. Began legal practice in Oakland. Served as Judge with Superior Court of Alameda County, Justice with District Court of Appeal, Associate Justice and, then, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of California. Died in 1940.
