Description
Title supplied by cataloger.
Photograph dated June 27, 1964 shows Queen Farah Diba, wife of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the Shah of Iran, watching her husband as he addresses UCLA graduates during graduation ceremonies on June 11, 1964. He spoke of the need to bridge the gap between the rich and the struggling poor, warning that there would be a "clash between the traditional forces clinging to their privileges and the progressive forces of the society who cherish an improvement." His presence at the ceremony brought on protests, student walk-outs, and an airplane flying overhead with anti-shah messages. Despite the disruptions, the Shah continued with his speech and received an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters.
