Description
Robert is the former mayor of Sausalito, a position in which his father, Charles, also served. Robert narrates the history of his family who came to California in 1854 and has lived in Sausalito since 1899. In 1903, Charles Gunn built a five-bedroom house at 22 Sunshine Avenue, which is still standing. Robert recalls the growth of Sausalito, changes there since the Golden Gate Bridge, and recommendations he has for the future of his hometown. From 1974 to 1984, Carla Ehat, with partner Anne Kent, and later Genevieve Martinelli, interviewed a broad spectrum of Marin County's long-time residents, from ranchers to politicians, including descendants of early pioneer families. This program was co-sponsored by the Marin County Free Library and the Moya Library in Ross. The resulting archive, consisting of nearly 300 recordings and their corresponding transcriptions, are housed in the Anne T. Kent California Room at the Civic Center branch of the Marin County Free Library.
