A man wearing a smock can be seen painting a mural of a pyramid on a wall. The pyramid might be that of El Castillo, or the Temple of Kukulcan, in Chiche´n Itza´, located in the northern center of the Yucata´n Peninsula. El Castillo (the castle) is a step pyramid with stairways up each of the four sides to the temple on top. On the Spring and Fall equinox, at the rising and setting of the sun, the corner of the structure casts a shadow in the shape of a plumed serpent, Kukulcan (also known as Quetzalcoatl), along the side of the North staircase.
