Title supplied by cataloger.; Photograph was edited for publication purposes and has creases. Raymond Burr was born on May 21, 1917 in Canada. He had a varied career, working on Broadway, in radio, in films as a character actor, and on television. He is best remembered for his TV roles in "Perry Mason" and "Ironside," winning two Emmy awards for his work in "Perry Mason." Burr was married once, but that union lasted less than four years. It was an "open secret" in Hollywood that Burr was gay and he lived with his partner, Robert Benevides, for nearly forty years. Burr was known for being a generous and kind person, giving to charities often and treating his fellow actors well. He died on September 12, 1993. Photograph caption dated May 7, 1959 reads "Although Fred Astaire walked away with armsful of 'Emmy' awards last night, there were a few left for other television entertainers, too. For instance, Bob Hope got a special one from trustees of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences; Jack Benny, best leading actor in a comedy series; Barbara Hale, best supporting actress in a dramatic series (Perry Mason), and Raymond Burr, best actor in a dramatic series (Perry Mason.)" The group is smiling and displaying their Emmys.
