Description
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar sat on the team bench, his throbbing head cradled in massive hands. When he glanced up, his agony was obvious. His eyes were glazed, the blood drained from his face. He told coach Paul Westhead he couldn't continue and quickly walked to the dressing room to spend the rest of the afternoon reposed on the training table. When his temmates entered afterwards they found him curled up in the fetal position. "We won this for you, big guy," they told him. All Kareem could do was raise a fist in recognition. Ever since the age of 14, the superstar center has been victimized by a horrible and, thus far, incurable malady. Headaches. He calls them migraines. He suffers from and endures them every year, always during the winter months. Photo dated: April 4, 1980.
