Description
Portrait of Wilson Seaman Dean, the second County Treasurer of Plumas County and was elected in 1854. He was one of the early emigrants and settled in Plumas County in 1851 on what now constitutes the Meadow Valley ranch, then still a part of the Butte county, where he opened a store. In 1854, he was one of the three commissioners to organize the County of Plumas, and at that time moved to Quincy. In January 1856, he returned to Rock Island, IL. where he married Sarah M. Culter, a native of Louisville, KY. They returned to California via the Isthmus of Panama. They continued on to Quincy where they made their permanent home. Not having had a family, they became the foster parents of Lena and Cora Brinkers. Mrs. Dean passed away at the family residence on Main St. on November 17, 1915 at the age of 79 years old, a beloved lady of the community of Quincy. Two Years later 1917, Mr. Dean crossed the Great Divide at the age of 88 years, 10 mos. and 18 days. The couple left a record of honesty, loyalty, charity, and modesty, and were beloved by all.
