Designed by Jacques Lipchitz and installed in 1969, the 30-foot ""Peace on Earth"" bronze sculpture depicts a dove descending to Earth as a spirit of peace, further symbolized by a Madonna standing inside a tear-shaped canopy, being supported by reclining lambs. The reflecting pool was replaced by an automated fountain designed by WET 20 years later. As part of a $40 million revitalization of the Music Center Plaza, renamed Jerry Moss Plaza, the sculpture was moved from its central location to the western edge along Hope Street in 2018. Before the sculpture was reinstalled, it received a new base in which a time capsule was placed. Inside the capsule is a flock of origami cranes with wishes for a future world of fellowship and harmonious coexistence. A woman sits on the western edge of the reflecting pool at the Music Center Plaza. Immediately behind her is the ""Peace on Earth"" bronze sculpture. On the left, beyond the line of manicured ficus nitida trees, is the Mark Taper Forum and across Grand Avenue is the Los Angeles County Hall of Administration (right), March 1981.
