Description
Photograph of Redondo Beach looking east along the Pike, an amusement area for tourists, ca.1924. The traffic-free street of the Pike at right is separated from the driving lanes to the left by thin, hurdle-style dividers which can be seen moving into the frame from the lower right corner of the image. To the left, the three-story El Ja Arms Hotel building can be seen, surrounded by cars parked along the sidewalk. To the right, pedestrains walk along the edges of commercial buildings and amusement ride entrances topped by American flags. Legible signs from left to right include: "The White House", "Columbia Bakery", "Fish Market", "Spanish Cafe", "Giant Dipper", "This is Sure Some Wicket Ride", "Lee's Delicious Orange Drink" and "Sandwiches, Hot Dogs, Hamburgers 10 cents".
