Description
Tamalpais gravity car leaving the Tavern of Tamalpais. Passengers on the "Crookedest Railroad" had a choice of coasting back to Mill Valley or Muir Woods by gravity car, or they could return by the regular mountain train. Front row, left, is the brakeman, who kept speed down to twelve miles per hour during the quiet six-mile glide. Conductor is at left. This is the same image as MVN1674.
