Description: Image of the bluffs and beach side view of the Arcadia Hotel and bath house as seen from the ocean in Santa Monica, California. Many people are seen dressed in clothes and bathing suits on the beach and in the water. A sign that reads "Arcadia Bath House 1000 Suits at 25₵ 100 Extra Fine Suits at 50₵. For Hot Salt Water Bath Go To The Hotel" is seen behind a covered sitting area filled with onlookers.
"Hotel Arcadia, Santa Monica"--text, handwritten in pencil in front margin. "15"--text, on item. "Pacific Photograph Gallery on the beach at Santa Monica, Calif. ... H.F. Rile."--text, advertisement on verso. Title transcribed from item; date supplied by cataloger based on history of the Arcadia Hotel, which was completed in 1887, and development of area. The hotel was built next to a steep cliff and shows only 3 stories on the Ocean Avenue side (seen in related items) and 5 stories on the beach side.
