Description
2010-3806. Covers: Riverside, Broadway, 13th and 14th Streets; Sacramento River in far distance. Visible: Edmonds Field, Sacramento City Cemetery, Red Feather Cleaners, Graham, Tower and I Street Bridges; gas holder tanks in distance along Sacramento River. "Steve Gauge" -- handwritten on envelope. Born in Medford, Oregon in 1922. After serving in the U.S. Navy in World War II, settled in Sacramento, starting a commercial photography business stringing for various newspapers. Business, Cartwright Aerial Surveys, eventually specialized in aerial photography and mapping. Died in Sacramento in 2003. Cartwright Aerial Surveys created aerial photographs to be used in producing topographic maps, plans, and profiles used in civil engineering; subdivision layouts and general purpose maps; products used for marketing studies and court documents. Photographs document growth and development of major urban areas of Northern California. First constructed in 1910 on corner of Riverside Blvd and Broadway, named Buffalo Park; new field built in 1922, Moreing Field; 1935 renamed Cardinal Field; 1944 named Doubleday Park; 1945 renamed Edmonds Field. Demolished in 1964. Also have negative.
