Description
Engraved map, 54 x 42.5, in Lewes Roberts, "The Merchants Map of Commerce." London, 1671. A Briggs map with the southernmost Punta de la Concepcion omitted as well as Briggs's names in the Gulf of California. The borders with some differences taken from 301b and also the names in the Mississippi Valley. The top and bottom borders of the map depict plans and scenes of towns and cities as well as the explorers who discovered them. Figures on the side borders depict the native inhabitants of said places - Havana (Cuba), Mexico City, Cusco (Peru), Pomeiocc (Virginia), Carolina (Florida), S. Domingo (Hispaniola), Phernambuco (Brazil), Potosus (Peru), Cartanega, and Siacosbi.
