Photograph caption dated September 11, 1964 reads, "Soar to Victory, a dance sponsored by the Icarian Flying Club as a benefit for the U.S. Olympic Soaring Team, will be held at 8 p.m. tomorrow at the Van Nuys Skyways Hangar, 16700 Roscoe Blvd., Van Nuys. Working on decorations are, from left, Mrs. Esther B. Athons, Van Nuys, private secretary to Walter R. Von Der Ahe of Van Nuys Skyways; Mrs. Jack Hollebeke, North Hollywood, decorations committee chairman for the Icarian Club, and Mrs. Barbara Bottenfield, Northridge, switchboard receptionist at Van Nuys Skyways. Actor Roger Smith, a pilot in the recent Mobil Oil Co. airplane "Economy Run," helped with arrangements and will provide entertainment at the event. Matt Jay's Band will provide music for dancing and displays of competition sail planes and latest models of powered aircraft will be presented. A midnight supper will be served." Note: The Icarian Flying Club is a San Fernando Valley club.
