Description
Shown is a campaign flyer for William "Bill" Rutland, dispersed in 1969. He was one of the first African Americans to move to South Land Park, California, where he experienced discrimination and racial covenants. Yet, he remained dedicated to his cause and worked up the Air Force civilian ranks at McClellan Airfield, eventually earning the highest recognition of a civilian employee. Bringing his experience and candor to the school board, Bill Rutland served from 1969 to 1977, and was well known for his conviction and ability to work with people.
