Photograph caption dated April 30, 1963 reads, "That's right. Even though a military-type bomb ripped off the top of the public telephone booth and sent glass shattering for a 100-foot radius, the phone was still in operation. Officers said the mystery blast occurred at 11:15 p.m. Monday in the booth on the southwest corner of Magnolia Blvd. and Hazeltine Ave. in Van Nuys. Police were checking to determine the reason for the blast." The Congregational Church of the Chimes can be seen across Magnolia Boulevard.
