Photograph of derrick for landing passengers and freight at Spreckles' sugar plantation, Hawaii, 1907. Waves crash against the foot of the embankment down which the rail landing reaches to meet the sea. Perspective from the top of the landing. Workers on the landing handle freight. Two small rowboats move between the landing and the steamer anchored out in the ocean on account of the rocky coast. All freight and passengers were brought in and taken out in small boats which were landed by being swung out on the derricks. Honolulu and Hilo were the only harbors on any of the islands.
