Description
In this letter, Yukio Mochizuki first introduces himself and his personal story, which includes being incarcerated first in the Wartime Civilian Control Administration Assembly Center at Puyallup, Washington, and later in the Minidoka War Relocation Authority camp in Idaho, which eventually came under jurisdiction of Raymond Ickes' father, Mr. Harold L. Ickes. Mochizuki writes that he was eventually conscripted into the U.S. Army in 1944 and trained at the Military Intelligence Service Language School at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. This personal background influenced his research topic, which focuses on the subject of Japanese Latin American internees during World War II. His request for Mr. Ickes includes "shedding more light on this 'unknown phase' of incarceration in the U.S. of Japanese from Latin America." He requests documents which may corroborate dates and event. He also requests comments from Mr. Ickes on twelve questions which appear on pages 2 and 3 of this letter. Collection of notes, articles, correspondence, photographs, and term papers collected by Yukio Mochizuki, a student at CSU Dominguez Hills, while researching Japanese American incarceration and Japanese Peruvian internment during World War II.
