View of ocean waves along West Cliff Drive between the Santa Cruz wharf and Lighthouse Point, showing a portion of the Phelan estate. James Phelan Sr. bought the estate from the Pelton family in 1887. The estate included garden statuary and a salt water pool. Portions of the estate were later given to the Catholic church for a school and home for the Oblates of St. Joseph.
