Description
Used in the Exhibit: Play by Play - A Century of L.A. Sports Photography, 1899-1989.
For years, Angels fans believed that their team was cursed. In 1978, in just the second season of free agency, owner Gene Autry signed gifted outfielder Lyman Bostock. That September, while sitting in a car, Bostock was shot and killed. In 1986, ace reliever Donnie Moore was within one strike of delivering the Angels to their first World Series. But Boston Red Sox outfielder Dave Henderson homered off Moore, and the Angels went on to lose the series. Three years later, Moore shot and seriously wounded his wife before turning the gun on himself. Photo dated: March 29, 1987.
