Photograph of both sides of the Civil War discharge papers for Private William M. Cann, for medical reasons following surgery, ca.1881. Both the back and front of the document are shown the certificate of discharge features a heading that reads "To Whom it May Concern" and lists Cann's commanding officer as Captain James W. Fellows. The reverse of the document is twice stamped, one stamp bearing the disclaimer "Bounty Disallowed", the other reading "U.S. Pension Office. November 19, 1881". A form for the "Oath of Identity" is pictured at the right third of the image. Cann belonged to the 84th Infantry of Indiana.
