Colonel Jaime Flores Grijalva (right), commander of the 3rd Brigade in San Miguel, returns to San Agustín, El Salvador, after a five-day guerrilla occupation of the town. An armed soldier stands behind him. The Colonel, now deceased, is among 32 Salvadoran military officers accused of directing, ordering, or participating in the operation that killed almost 1,000 people (half of them children and adolescents) in December 1981 in El Mozote and its surroundings. In January 2018, a Salvadoran court has recognized the events as War crimes and crimes against humanity." Armado y con atuendo militar, el coronel Jaime Flores Grijalva (a la derecha), comandante de la Tercera Brigada en San Miguel, regresa a San Agustín, El Salvador, después de una ocupación guerrillera de cinco días en esta ciudad. El coronel, ahora fallecido, se encuentra entre los 32 oficiales militares salvadoreños acusados ??de dirigir, ordenar o participar en la operación que mató a casi 1,000 personas (la mitad de ellas niños y adolescentes) en diciembre de 1981 en El Mozote y sus alrededores.
